Payment delays nearly cost the Gauteng health department critical equipment which would have resulted in further delays of the repairs at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

Last week, a contractor threatened to remove its scaffolding, which is reinforcing damaged parts of the health facility. Nearly a year after a devastating fire gutted the hospital on April 16, full operations are yet to resume.
